About the Platform

Policy on the Move is an independent platform offering rigorous, evidence-based analysis of international migration in the Americas — examining how movement shapes economies, societies, and policy across the region.

That analysis comes from a perspective that remains underrepresented in international affairs: that of a Black man with formal academic training, deep hands-on policy experience, and a sustained engagement with the communities most affected by the policies being debated. Foreign policy discourse has long been shaped by a narrow set of voices. This platform is built on the conviction that expanding who does the analysis changes what gets seen — and ultimately, what gets done.

About Johnnie Williams, M.A.

Policy on the Move is curated by Johnnie Williams, M.A., a policy professional with over a decade of experience at the intersection of politics, government, and international affairs.

Johnnie holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University, with a focus on migration and Latin America, and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from North Carolina State University, with a concentration in Latin American and Caribbean politics. His academic training sharpened the analytical and research skills he brings to every piece published here — from policy memos and white papers to long-form analysis for policymakers and senior elected officials.

He has had the privilege of serving in both the White House and on Capitol Hill, and now brings that experience to bear on one of the defining issues of our time: how migration in the Americas shapes foreign policy, regional economies, and the lives of millions.

Whether you are a policymaker, researcher, advocate, or engaged citizen — this platform is built for you.
